Strategy
Do not get predictable. Once other Poker Players have your Strategy figured out, especially in regards to bluffing, you are on your way to losing your bankroll. Holding the best hand is only a part of poker, making sure others do not know when you are holding it is what is important.
You must wait until the player to your right acts. If you bet out of turn this could give an unfair advantage to a Poker Player that did not act yet. If you raise out of turn a Player that might had called could fold. On the other hand, if you fold out of turn you are giving an advantage to the Player on your left who now knows you will not raise.
Do not play without adequate money at the table. Many Online Poker Rooms allow Players an occasional "All-In", meaning they can stop further betting in a game by putting in the remainder of their bankroll. Regardless - it is not wise to play without an adequate stack of chips. When you only have a few bucks left on the table, it's hard to bluff - so when you do raise people will assume you've got a good hand, most people won't risk their last few chips on a losing hand right. It is also easy to be bullied off a table when other Poker Players raise more than you can afford. You should have 40-50 times the table limit available in chips when you start, and should buy or bring in more before you run out or get even close.
You have to know that in the Poker Room you never sit down to play on your own. Rather, you make your way to the desk behind which the room manager, some supervisors, and some chip runners are milling.
It is good to set a goal of winning between 50 to 100% of a single-session bankroll. Then you can set aside your original bankroll plus half your winnings. Then you can play with the remainder and continue to set aside additional winnings.
If you want to win money, choose less skillful opponents. You should play at betting limits where you can beat the majority of Poker Players. Move down in limits if you are having difficulties winning money.
You must learn to keep your emotions in check. The Poker table is not the place for foul language or temper tantrums. It will not be tolerated. Besides it makes you look foolish. Veteran players as well as new comers occasionally make this mistake.
